President stresses building politically strong army

(VOV) - President Truong Tan Sang emphasised the necessity to build an elite, revolutionary, modern army  at a ceremony in Hanoi on December 13 to mark the 70th anniversary of the General Department of Politics under the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA).

He said that in the context of complicated situations in the region and the world, particularly in Asia-Pacific and Southeast Asia, as well as schemes to eliminate the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), the Vietnamese army should be politically strong in order to defend the country.

President Sang applauded the outstanding achievements and efforts made by the department, which have helped maintain the Party’s direct leadership over the VPA and reinforce the armed forces in all fields from politics, ideology to organisation.

On the occasion, the General Department of Politics received the Ho Chi Minh Order- the noblest honour of the Party and State in recognition of its significant dedication.

Senior Lieutenant General Ngo Xuan Lich, Chief of the department said the development of the General Department of Politics has always closely associated with the building, growing-up and achievements of the VPA over the last 70 years.
