President calls for further Vietnam-Laos court cooperation

(VOV) - Vietnam is willing to share experience and help enhance competence of staff of the Lao Supreme People’s Court, President Truong Tan Sang has said.

Sang made the statement at a reception in Hanoi on December 25 for Chief Judge of the Lao Supreme People’s Court Khamphanh Sitthidampha on his working visit to the neighbouring country.

The President suggested that the Supreme People’s Courts of Vietnam and Laos intensify mutual assistance in personnel training.

Highly valuating the cooperation between the two courts over the years, Sang affirmed that the cooperation programmes signed have made significant contributions to further boosting the special friendship between the two Parties, States and peoples.

Chief Judge Khamphanh thanked Vietnam’s Party and State for providing assistance in training Lao judges and court staff.

In 2013, the Lao court sector will further cement cooperation with its Vietnamese counterpart, contributing to strengthening the special friendship and solidarity between the two neighbours, said the Chief Judge.

Earlier, Khamphanh held talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Truong Hoa Binh, reviewing cooperation between the two courts.

In 2012 the Vietnamese government provided VND1 billion for a project to help improve the capacity of the court sector of Laos.

A delegation of judges and officials of the Lao Supreme People’s Court attended a short training course in Vietnam in August.

The two courts are expected to jointly organise a training course for Lao judges and court staff in Laos from January 10-15, 2013 .

Khamphanh said he hopes that the two courts will continue to exchange delegations and work together in training human resources for the Lao side.
