(VOV) - President Truong Tan Sang has praised the Vietnam Committee for Catholic Solidarity (VCCS), at the sixth congress of Vietnamese Catholic representatives, which took place in Hanoi on November 20.
He noted that since its establishment 30 years ago, the VCCS has successfully performed its vision of uniting and encouraging Catholics to become actively involved in patriotic emulation movements, boosting socio-economic development, reducing poverty, and promoting the importance of cultural and religious values within communities, contributing to local security and social order.
In recognition of the hard work and efforts of the Catholic community and in the interests of development, President Sang pledged that the Party and State will continue to provide care and offer the best possible conditions for religious activities to succeed.
He expressed his hope that Catholic dignitaries, clergymen and followers will continue to promote cultural traditions and patriotism and make further contributions to national construction and defence.
The same day, National Assembly (NA) Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung received a VCCS delegation who came to inform him of the outcomes of the sixth Congress of Vietnamese Catholics for National Construction and Defence that took place in the capital city on November 19-20.
Chairman Hung stated that the Party and State always follow the consistent policy of respecting and ensuring the right to freedom of beliefs and religions or no religion at all which has been stipulated in all Constitutions of the country, including the draft amendments to the 1992 Constitution.
He said he is convinced that Catholic dignitaries and followers will uphold religious values and citizens’ responsibilities, contributing to building a country of peace, independence, unification and territorial integrity.
