Party chief orders drastic fight against drought in Tien Giang

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong ordered taking prompt and drastic actions to fight drought and saline intrusion while visiting the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang on March 16.

In the foreseeable future, he asked the province to adjust its agriculture planning and keep regular track of freshwater shortages, thereby taking prompt and comprehensive measures to ensure water supply for local people’s need.

He hoped that Tien Giang will do a good job of Party building and persistently carrying out the Party building resolution adopted by the 11 th Party Central Committee’s fourth plenum, in combination with a campaign on studying and following the moral examples of President Ho Chi Minh.

Tien Giang needs to direct and successfully hold elections of deputies to the 14 th NA and People’s Councils for the 2016-2021 tenure, ensuring democracy, quality and law abidance in the process.

The Party chief took note of the provincial authorities’ proposals on providing funding for facilities to counter climate change and rising seawater levels, as well as adding Go Cong coastal economic park into the country’s coastal economic zone master plan.

Visiting Gia Thuan commune – a specially disadvantaged locality in the coastal district of Go Cong Dong, he examined local measures to cope with the severe drought, develop the marine-based economy, build new-style rural areas and reduce poverty.

The district is currently home to two communes meeting all new-style rural area criteria, with the rate of poor households falling to 2.96 percent.

In the morning of the same day, the Party chief paid a call to a heroic Vietnamese mother and visited Go Cong wood craft village in the locality.
