Official responsibilities and expectations

(VOV) - Voters across the country are closely watching Vietnam’s first ever vote of confidence for key officials, hoping it will help raise the efficiency of the State apparatus.

The National Assembly held a vote of confidence on June 10 for 47 holders of key positions in the State, National Assembly (NA) and Government, including State President Truong Tan Sang, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung, and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

This is the first time the legislature has conducted such a vote aiming to strengthen the management capacity of State officials.

The confidence motion demonstrates the Party’s determination to build a strong, healthy State apparatus at all levels.

The success of the vote depends on the NA deputies. This is no easy task for them because they must cast ballots on 47 officials who hold various positions and work in different areas of society.

Although the deputies received previous self-assessments from the officials, they need to gather more information from other channels before making their final decisions.

Former Party General Secretary Le Kha Phieu says in order to produce correct and objective results, the deputies must determine if the officials have fulfilled their assigned tasks, taking into account the officials’positions, their adherence to the laws, their ethics and lifestyles, and willingness to address voter concerns.

The result of the vote will measure the quality of high-level personnel, and will affect not only the image of the officials, but also the entire State leadership.

Every NA deputy should be aware that each ballot they cast represents the desires and aspirations of the people and voters, and consider the vote an actual capacity test for key post holders elected or ratified by the legislature.

Despite high expectations, the vote is not a comprehensive solution for changing the qualities and virtues of the key State agency elite. However, it should make the voted officials show greater responsibility and try harder to accomplish the tasks entrusted to them.
