NA convenes for fall session

The fourth plenary session of the 14th National Assembly (NA) began in Hanoi on the morning of October 23 with the opening ceremony broadcast live on national television and radio channels.

The National Assembly will hear reports on the implementation of the socio-economic development plan and State spending on the first day of its 4th plenary session.

The Government will also report to the NA deputies on development plans and the use of the State budget next year.

Out of 26 working days, 11 will be broadcast live on VTV, including the debate on the State budget, the handling of citizens’ complaints and the national report on gender equality.

The NA is scheduled to vote on six laws, one of which is the controversial draft Law on Planning.

The law was brought to the NA for discussion three times previously and sparked heated debates among ministries as it would trigger amendments of 45 other laws if approved.

Other legislation on the NA’s agenda includes the draft law on cyber security and amendments to the laws on anti-corruption and competition.

Plans on land clearance for Long Thanh Airport and details on the administrations of three special economic zones of Van Don, Van Phong and Phu Quoc will also be brought up for discussion.

Officials’ departure

During this session, the NA deputies are expected to vote on the departure of two high level Government officials. This is Transport Minister Truong Quang Nghia who was just assigned by the Politburo as the new Party Secretary of Da Nang City, replacing Nguyen Xuan Anh who was dismissed over corruption-related offenses.

The NA will also vote on Government Chief Inspector Phan Van Sau who submitted his resignation due to concerns over his health and family-related reasons.
