Lam Dong told to tap development potential
(VOV) - Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong has asked the Central Highland province to take advantage of its strategic position to boost socio-economic development and maintain security.
At a working session with local authorities during a visit on December 6-7, Trong said Lam Dong has great potential for developing tourism services, agricultural production, the processing industry and mining.
He noted that despite local and global economic difficulties, the province has achieved a high GDP growth rate of 14 percent, and received nearly 1 million holidaymakers this year.
The poverty rate among households has dropped rapidly to 6.4 percent, and GDP per capita income has reached more than VND32 million (roughly US$1,600), a figure higher than the national average.
Lam Dong has restructured its farms and developed efficient economic models to enhance production efficiency.
However, the Party leader suggested that the province fully tap its potential in tourism, agricultural production, and the planting of industrial crops such as coffee, tea, vegetables, and fruits, while expanding outlets.
He welcomed the province’s proposal to build Da Lat into a national and international-level tourism and convalescent resort city.
Lam Dong needs to speed up the new rural programme with efficient economic models, closely linked to sustainable poverty reduction, to increase the competitiveness of the local economy, said Trong.
He also asked the province to review the restructuring of agro-forestry farms to make them more profitable.
He reminded the province to take care of needy people, including social policy beneficiaries, during the upcoming Lunar New Year festival.
