Ho Chi Minh City People’s Council convenes third session
The third session of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Council opened on December 6 to set socio-economic-cultural goals for 2017 and discuss ways to settle issues of public concern.
This year, the city’s gross regional development product (GRDP) hit more than VND1.037 quadrillion (US$47.13 billion), up 8.05 percent annually, meeting 8-8.5 percent of the target.
Its exports hit US$28.2 billion, up 10.1 percent while the industrial production index rose 7.68 percent.
The total revenues to the State budget reached VND303.8 trillion (US$138 million), or 101.85 percent of the estimate, said Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong.
Phong said the city set the goal of improving growth quality and economic competitiveness in tandem with economic restructuring this year, partly by improving business climate and encouraging start-ups, upgrading transport infrastructure, actively coping with climate change and preventing infectious diseases, ensuring food safety and social welfare.
The four-day meeting will focus its discussions on reviewing the socio-economic-cultural performance for 2016, expenses and revenues to the State budget for 2016 and budget allocation for 2017.
Participants will also listen to constituents’ suggestions, reports on the activities of the People’s Court and People’s Procuracy, consider reports of the municipal People’s Committee and elect additional members to the municipal People’s Council for the 2016-2021 tenure.
