HCM City, Phnom Penh foster comprehensive cooperation

(VOV) - HCM City attaches importance to stronger cooperation with Phnom Penh and will do its utmost to promote bilateral ties in the coming years.

This statement was made by Le Thanh Hai, Secretary of the municipal Party Committee at a reception for a Phnom Penh delegation led by its Governor Paso Cheatevong in HCM City on March 20.

Hai expressed his delight with the ever deepening and widening cooperation between the two countries in all fields, ranging from politics to economics, investment, trade, and culture.

He applauded Cambodia’s recent achievements and expressed his belief under the reign of King Norodom Sihamoni and the leadership of the Cambodia People’s Party, Cambodia will certainly advance and prosper in the eyes of the world.

He suggested that the two cities step up exchange visits to capitalise and strengthen cooperation among youth and instill upon them the traditional patriotism and friendship ties that exist between the two countries.

For his part Paso thanked HCM City for its assistance to Phnom Penh over the years, specifically singling out the areas of economics, education and health care, as well as cooperation in putting Cho Ray-Phnom Penh Hospital into operation recently.

He said HCM City has also significantly provided support for Phnom Penh in human resource training, waste treatment, and medical checks-up for the poor.

Vietnam and Cambodia aim to raise two-way trade turnover from current US$3 billion to US$5 billion in the near future, and the two cities will help realize this target, he said,

Paso suggested both sides strengthen tourism cooperation through opening tours linking their localities.

At the talks, host and guest also discussed measures to boost comprehensive cooperation in economics, trade, education, culture, and health care.
