HCM City: NA deputy candidates vow to be deserving of voters’ trust

President Tran Dai Quang and other candidates hoping to be elected to the 14th National Assembly have engaged in a series of meetings with voters of Ho Chi Minh City, during which they promised utmost efforts to represent voters’ interests.

The five candidates had face-to-face conversations with voters in Constituency No.1, which comprises District 1, District 3 and District 4.

They presented their action plans as a National Assembly deputy and responded to voters’ questions.

While Dr. Tran Dong A, lecturer at the Pediatrics Hospital No 2 in HCM City, vowed to help create a better medical system, Dang Thi Thuy Dung, Deputy Director General of Gia Dinh Textile & Garment Corporation, said she will advocate policies facilitating business’ operations and job provision as well as gender equality.

Ngo Tuan Nghia, Deputy political commissar of the HCM City High Command, noted his top concerns are how to help build strong community-based defence for the city, overhaul the legal system and fight corruption. Meanwhile, Lam Dinh Thang, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam National Union of Students, said he will focus on youth-related issues.

The fifth candidate, Politburo member and President Tran Dai Quang pledged utmost efforts to fine-tune the legal system to institutionalise the Resolution of the 12th National Party Congress and the 2013 Constitution; enhance State management efficiency; build up the armed forces to firmly protect independence, sovereignty, and territorial and maritime integrity; capitalise on every resource to boost national development; and bring into play the strength of the nation’s great unity and people’s creativity.

At the meetings, local constituents said they hope future NA deputies will keep close contacts with the public, listen to public opinions and take actions to live up to voters’ aspirations.

They also want the new parliament to push ahead with its agenda and operation reforms, enhance supervision over major programmes and projects, and have more drastic moves to promote socio-economic development and ensure defence-security.

On behalf of the candidates, President Tran Dai Quang promised they will consider the interests of the people and the nation their top priority, and they will make self-improvement to serve the people at their best.

The deputies to the 14th NA will be elected at the same time with those to all-level people’s Councils in the general elections on May 22, which is a Sunday.

HCM City has 36 candidates who are eligible for the upcoming election of NA deputies.

It is to elect 30 deputies to the 14th parliament, according to the allocation of the NA Standing Committee.
