Fight against corruption should be sped up: Party chief

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong has stated that the fight against corruption should be continuously sped up with higher determination, perseverance and efficiency this year.

During the 13th session of the Central Steering Committee on Corruption Prevention and Control in Hanoi on January 22, the Party chief, who is also head of the committee, lauded achievements in the effort in 2017, saying these have strengthened public trust.

A number of legal documents on administration decentralisation, personnel appointment and rotation were issued while inspection and supervision were strengthened, thereby proposing reclamation of trillions of VND to the State budget.

The committee launched eight groups to inspect investigation and prosecution of serious and complicated economic and corruption cases that caught public concern in 20 localities. Inspectors, auditors, ministries and agencies concerned worked closely and effectively together to uncover violations, which affirmed the Party and State’s determination in the fight.

About key tasks this year, Trong asked for hastening the process of refining mechanisms on socio-economic management and corruption prevention and control, launching more communications campaigns to raise public awareness of laws, fighting wrongful and distorted allegations, and resolutely filtering out depraved, corrupted personnel, particularly those working in anti-corruption agencies.

He requested that serious and complicated corruption and economic cases, especially those under the watch of the committee, need to be accelerated. Meanwhile, it is also necessary to strengthen inspecting and auditing fields where there are opinions about their negatives, corruption and wastefulness.

Head of the CPV’s Commission for Internal Affairs and permanent deputy head of the Central Steering Committee on Corruption Prevention and Control Phan Dinh Trac said under drastic instructions of the CPV General Secretary and head of the committee, the fight against corruption saw strong and comprehensive progresses without “banned zones” and “exceptions” last year, thus winning the public trust.
