Buddhist Sect convenes congress in HCM City

The Minh Su Theravada Buddhist Sect held its second congress on June 7 to review its past five-year activities and put forward orientations for 2013-2018.

The event was attended by representatives from the Government Committee for Religious Affairs and the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilization as well as more than 300 Buddhist monks and followers from 19 cities and provinces nationwide.

It was reported that the sect’s activities were organized in compliance with the Party and State’s policies and laws on religion and belief.

Addressing the event, Nguyen Thanh Xuan, vice head of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs, praised the Sect’s efforts to reinforce local Buddhist temples and actively carry out social activities to develop the country.

The Committee wants the Sect to promote what it has made and overcome shortcomings to reach new achievements, Xuan said.

The congress honoured the Presbyterian council and elected members of the Sect’s central executive board for the new term.
