Vietnam – Thailand diplomatic ties marked in HCM City
VOV.VN - On August 11, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee held a ceremony marking the 40th anniversary of Vietnam-Thailand diplomatic relations (1976 - 2016).
Addressing the ceremony, Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Vice Chairman said over the past four decades, relations between the two nations have grown steadily across a variety of fields, recording tremendous achievements and it is worth noting that their relations were upgraded to a strategic partnership in 2013.
“Thailand has always been one of the most important partner of Vietnam in Southeast Asia in particular and Asia in general. The formation of the ASEAN Community at the end of 2015 provides a firm foundation for both countries to actualize economic cooperation activities in the time to come.
“With open and incentive policies, Ho Chi Minh City is willing to welcome and create favorable conditions for leaders, businesses and people of Thailand to the city. The City will actively support the Thai Consulate General in carrying out effectively programs and cooperation projects as a contribution to deepening bilateral ties,” he said.
Thai Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Ureerat Ratanaprukre hailed the vigorous growth of relations between Vietnam and Thailand as well as closer cooperation in multitude of fields. She also affirmed her organization’s readiness to work hand in hand with the City in implementing programs and projects.
In 2015, trade turnover between Ho Chi Minh City and Thailand reached more than US$ 2.3 billion. Thailand is one of the 15 largest foreign investors in Ho Chi Minh City.
As of June 6 this year, Thailand poured nearly US$260 million into 161 projects in Vietnam.
Both sides have advanced bilateral cooperation in various fields such as culture, tourism, education - training, healthcare and the environment.
