Vietnam hopes to get IMF’s advice: NA vice chief

Vietnam wishes to receive advice from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on how to overcome difficulties and obstacles to successfully renovate its economy, state National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan. 

She made the proposal while receiving IMF Deputy Managing Director Mitsuhiro Furusawa in Hanoi on June 12. 

She also asked for IMF’s recommendations on the management of macro-economy, monetary and fiscal policies as well as measures and resources for economic restructuring, especially in banking reform and bad debt settlement. 

The NA Vice Chairwoman also expressed hope that the IMF continue assisting NA bodies by providing them with expertise and policy making experience of other countries as well as latest information on the world economy and studies on Vietnam’s socio-economic conditions. 

On his part, Mitsuhiro Furusawa said he hopes for stronger and more effective collaboration between Vietnam and the IMF in the future. 

He congratulated Vietnam on great socio-economic achievements, especially success in fufilling Millennium Development Goals, holding that the attainments should be promoted to lay a firm foundation for the country’s future growth. 

The IMF leader pledged that the fund will continue to cooperate with and support Vietnam in terms of finance, human resources development, while giving the country policy consultations for further development.
