Senior leaders welcome US business representatives

(VOV) - President Truong Tan Sang has reiterated Vietnam’s willingness to offer US and ASEAN businesses the best possible conditions to invest in the country over the long term.

President Sang was speaking at an October 29 Hanoi reception for visiting US-ASEAN Business Council (UABC) Chairman and ACE Limited CEO Evan Greenberg.

Sang acknowledged the Council’s role in encouraging its members to intensify their Vietnamese investment. He credited it with promoting cooperation between American agencies and Vietnam within the framework of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP).

Sang noted his hopes that US businesses will continue to number among Vietnam’s leading partners.

UABC Chairman Greenberg said he is keen to usher more US enterprises to Vietnam and wants Vietnamese ministries and sectors to cultivate the conditions that will encourage entrepreneurs to explore investment opportunities.

Greenberg applauded Vietnam’s recent progress in improving transparency and competition but urged greater efforts to entice foreign businesses to remain in the country for longer and contribute to the ongoing.

He also pledged his best efforts to drawing more US investment to Vietnam.

The same day, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung received UABC Vice Chairman Keith William and major US business representatives.

He said the UABC’s activities have contributed to bolstering cooperation between Vietnam and the US, especially in trade and investment, adding that the Vietnamese Government always creates favourable conditions for foreign investors, including those from the US.

The Vietnam-US relationship is growing rapidly in various fields, with higher two-way trade that greatly benefits both sides, Dung said.

The PM thanked the UABC for its efforts to step up cooperation between the two nations and suggested the council support Vietnam in the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP) negotiations.

UABC Vice Chairman Keith William said that the council’s organisation of its first meeting in Vietnam shows US businesses’ keen interests and their recognition of importance to long-term investment in the Southeast Asian nation.

This is an important milestone in the context that the parties are preparing for the conclusion of the TPP negotiations. The successful TPP negotiations will enhance cooperation between Vietnam and the US, especially in trade and investment, he said.
