President Quang receives UN Deputy Secretary General

VOV.VN - On May 4, President Tran Dai Quang received UN Deputy Secretary General Jan Eliasson, currently on a visit to Vietnam from May 3-6 6 to inspect the drought situation.
The UN official praised Vietnam’s success in holding the Non-Permanent Membership at the UN from 2008 to 2009 and its bid to run for the 2020-2021 term. He said he hoped Vietnam would continue to integrate SDGs into its socio-economic development programs.
The UN official will visit the Mekong River Delta and update the UN on the local drought and people’s lives. He said Vietnam has been listed as one of countries in need of international support.
On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh held talks with the UN Deputy Secretary General.
The two sides agreed on the need to focus resources to implement the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda.
Talking with Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh about recent developments in the East Sea, Eliason said the UN was closely following the situation in the East Sea and hoped the involved parties would practice restraint and peacefully resolve disputes on the basis of international law.
