PM Phuc hosts Liberian, South African diplomats

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on December 8 hosted separate receptions for Liberian Foreign Minister Marjon Vashti Kamara and outgoing South African Ambassador to Vietnam Kgomotso Ruth Magau in Hanoi on December 8.

Meeting with the Liberian diplomat, PM Phuc asked Liberia to offer more favourable conditions for Vietnamese investment in Liberia and believed that after this Vietnam visit, both nations will steadily progress in their relations demonstrated by their efforts to carry out projects to meet expectations of the two countries’ leaders and people.

He suggested intensifying delegation exchange at all levels, noting that both sides boast great potential for broader cooperation especially in trade and investment. Vietnam and Liberia should devise many pragmatic measures to enhance cooperation in diverse fields, Phuc stressed.

The PM called for greater efforts to strongly stimulate bilateral trade which stood at just US$35.3 million in 2016, and create optimal conditions for each other’s businesses to enhance trade, delegation exchange, and participate in fairs and exhibitions in their respective countries.

Phuc also asked Liberia to support Vietnam’s candidacy for non-permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council for 2020-2021 and to recognise the full market economy status of Vietnam.

He underlined the need for the two foreign ministries to maintain close coordination to step up bilateral cooperation activities in multiple fields.

Minister Kamara, in turn, expressed her admiration for Vietnam’s struggle for national independence and development efforts.

Informing her host about the outcomes of the talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh, she said the two sides agreed on numerous concrete contents on cooperation promotion to maximize their countries’ advantages in future.

They also signed an agreement on visa exemption for diplomatic and official passport holders of Vietnam and Liberia, which will strengthen connections between the two Governments and peoples.

Receiving outgoing South African Ambassador to Vietnam Kgomotso Ruth Magau, who came to bid farewell to him, the government leader said Vietnam and South Africa should continue to step up trade activities and  cooperation in diverse fields in order to elevate two-way trade to a higher level from the current figure of US$1 billion.

He said the two countries should facilitate the investment promotion of their businesses, especially in agriculture, one of Vietnam’s strengths and displayed his wish that the South African diplomat will continue supporting the enhancement of Vietnam-South Africa comprehensive cooperation in her new position.

For her part, the ambassador said Vietnam holds an important role in South African’s external policy, adding that the South African Government will continue augmenting cooperation with Vietnam, especially in agriculture, tourism and people-to-people exchange.
