VOV.VN - Vietnamese National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan’s visit to Australia aims to promote the existing bilateral comprehensive partnership, towards strategic partnership.

NA Chairwoman Ngan arrived in Canberra on November 29, starting her official visit to Australia at the invitation of Australian legislative and government bodies.

After the welcome ceremony, Speaker of Australia's House of Representatives Tony Smith and Senate President Scott Ryan hold talks with the NA leader.

At the talks, Mrs Ngan says Vietnam continues pursuing its motto of developing cooperation and friendship with other countries, and deepening ties with key partners, including Australia.

The two sides agree to further fostering the relationship between the two legislative bodies, intensifying high-level exchange visits between parliamentary committees and agencies, supervising the implementation of signed cooperation agreements between the two governments, exchanging information on parliamentary activities of each country, and enhancing the role and activities of the Parliamentary Friendship Group.

The NA and Government of Vietnam is ready to support and facilitate Vietnamese and Australian friendship organisations' activities, including educational and cross-cultural exchanges and cooperation in humanitarian aid, says Mrs Ngan at a meeting with President of the Australia-Vietnam Friendship Society (AVFS) Kim Sampson in Canberra.


The NA leader hosts a reception for Australian students who are joining the New Colombo Plan (NCP) programme in Vietnam.

The top legislator welcomes the Australian government’s initiative to offer US$100 million scholarships to Australian students who are studying in Indian-Pacific countries, including Vietnam. 

She wishes that the Australian government will further help develop education system and human resources, thus facilitating exchange between the two peoples. 

The top legislator visits the Vietnamese Embassy.


Mrs Ngan visits the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR),

and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO).

The top legislator meets Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, deputy head of the ruling Liberal Party of Australia.

At a meeting with Australia’s Governor-General Peter Cosgrove, Mrs Ngan says the Vietnamese NA wants to promote the comprehensive partnership between the two countries and the cooperation between the two parliaments.

The NA leader asks the Governor-General and Government of Australia to continue encouraging their country’s enterprises to invest and form business ties with Vietnamese partners.
