Lao PM to co-chair inter-governmental committee meeting in Vietnam

Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith will lead a delegation to Vietnam to attend and co-chair the 41st meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Inter-Governmental Committee from January 5-6, 2019, the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry announced.

The Lao PM makes the trip at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

The 40th meeting of the committee was held in Laos on February 4-5, 2018.

Vietnam and Laos have enjoyed close-knit traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation. 

Trade between Laos and Vietnam topped US$900 million in 2017, a year-on-year increase of over 10%. The two countries have set a target of US$4 billion by 2020.

Vietnamese companies have invested US$5 billion in 276 projects in Laos, mainly in energy, services, infrastructure, mining, agriculture and forestry.
