Deputy Defence Minister welcomes director of USAID Vietnam

VOV.VN - Deputy Defence Minister Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh gave a reception to Director of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) in Vietnam Michael Greene on March 7 in Hanoi. 

During the meeting, Greene extolled the close relations between his agency and Vietnam’s defence ministry in recent times, expressing his confidence that both sides will further expand their ties in the time ahead.

Sen. Lieut. Gen. Vinh said he hopes Vietnam-US cooperation in overcoming the consequences of war will continue to grow and flourish. 

Host and guest discussed the forthcoming visit to Vietnam by a delegation of US senators led by Senator Patrick Leahy.

Accordingly, the two sides are set to announce the launch of a project to treat dioxin pollution at Bien Hoa airport, and that the US side will provide US$50 million for Vietnamese victims of Agent Orange (AO)/dioxin. 

The two sides also touched upon coordinating a workshop in Washington, on cooperation between the two countries in overcoming the consequences of war with a purpose of mobilizing resources, especially from the US, for the work. 

Later the same day, Sen. Lieut. Gen Vinh hosted a reception for Italian Ambassador to Vietnam Antonio Alessandro.
