Cabinet leader welcomes WB official
VOV.VN - On May 11, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc congratulated Victoria Kwakwa, Regional Vice President for East Asia and Pacific of the World Bank (WB) on assuming her new post while meeting the WB official in Hanoi.
PM Phuc said he hopes Victoria Kwakwa will continue to help Vietnam with infrastructure and renewable energy development as well as land database and educational cooperation project.
As one of the countries hardest hit by climate change, Vietnam wants to receive WB assistance to enable it to cope with this phenomenon in both short and long terms, Phuc told his guest.
The cabinet leader called for the WB to maintain its ODA provision to help Vietnam alleviate difficulties during the economic development process.
During the meeting, both sides also discussed measures to respond to drought in the central and Central Highlands region and saline intrusion in the Mekong Delta.
Victoria Kwakwa affirmed the WB's willingness to help Vietnam access preferential loans to develop renewable energy in order to reduce negative impacts of climate change, which is part of the country’s commitments at the 21st Conference of the Parties (COP21) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Vietnam is one of the five nations to receive the priority to implement the programme, she said, adding that her organization is ready to continue assisting Vietnam in restructuring debts, and addressing pressures and burdens on the State budget.
