A Vietnamese film entitled “Cuoc Doi cua Yen” (Yen’s Life) directed by Dinh Tuan Vu will be screened during the fifth ASEAN film festival in the Prague, the Czech Republic, revealed the Organisation Board during a press conference on August 30.

The festival, themed “ASEAN-One Vision, One Identity,” aims to bring an insight of the life and people of ASEAN member countries to audiences in the Czech Republic. Running from September 13-17 in Lucerna Cinema, the event is sponsored by the host country’s Barrandov film studio and Vietnam Airlines.

According to Thai Ambassador to the Czech Republic Narong Sasitorn, who is also President of the ASEAN Committee in Prague, cultural diplomacy is among important programmes being implemented by the committee and ambassadors from the bloc’s member countries, aiming to help the host country gain thorough understanding of ASEAN’s diverse cultures and foster people-to-people contacts.

The committee, which comprises Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines, is considering to invite other countries to join the event to increase its diversity, he said.

Meanwhile, Vu Van Minh, Minister-Counsellor from the Vietnamese Embassy in the Czech Republic , said that the event will foster connectivity between ASEAN and the Czech Republic, while advertising the people and culture of ASEAN member countries in the host country.

“Yen’s Life” is about the life of a 10-year-old girl whose marriage was arranged by her parents.

The film won the Grand Festival Prize at the World Premieres Film Festival in the Philippines in July this year. It also won five prizes at the 19 th Vietnam Film Festival last year.
