World famous robot films

(VOV) - Robot films such as “Blade Runner”, “Terminator” or “Wall-E” are considered the masterpieces of the world, which are most favourite all time. 

1. Metropolis (1927)

Metropolis is a 1927 German expressionist epic science fiction drama film directed by Fritz Lang. It is known as the first feature length science-fiction film.

Director George Lucas used this film as the greatest source of visual inspiration on the Star Wars.

2. Star Wars (1977)

American film Star Wars was released in 1977, which was written and directed by George Lucas.

C-3PO and R2-D2 are famous robots in the history of the world’s cinematography. They are not main characters of the film, however, they win audiences’ hearts due to their humour.

3. Blade Runner (1982)

The film depicts a dystopian Los Angeles in November 2019, in which genetically engineered replicants, which are visually indistinguishable from adult humans, are manufactured by the powerful Tyrell Corporation as well as by other "mega-corporations" around the world.

The use of replicants on Earth is banned and they are exclusively utilized for dangerous or menial work on off-world colonies. Replicants who defy the ban and return to Earth are hunted down and "retired" by special police operatives known as "Blade Runners".

The plot focuses on a desperate group of recently escaped replicants hiding in Los Angeles and the burnt-out expert Blade Runner, Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), who reluctantly agrees to take on one more assignment to hunt them down.

4. Terminator (1984)

The Terminator series is an American science fiction franchise created by James Cameron and Gale Anne Hurd.

The central theme of the franchise is the battle for survival between the nearly-extinct human race and the world-spanning synthetic intelligence that is Skynet. 

Its fifth film, Terminator Genesys (2015), is scheduled to be screened this July.

5. Robocop (1987)

RoboCop centers on police officer Alex Murphy (Weller) who is brutally murdered by a gang of criminals and subsequently revived by the malevolent mega-corporation Omni Consumer Products (OCP) as a superhuman cyborg law enforcer known as “RoboCop”.

6. Bicentennial Man (1999)

Bicentennial Man is a 1999 American science fiction family comedy-drama film starring Robin Williams.

Based on the novel The Positronic Man, co-written by Isaac Asimov and Robert Silverberg, which is itself based on Asimov's original novella titled The Bicentennial Man, the plot explores issues of humanity, slavery, prejudice, maturity, intellectural freedom, conformity, sex, love, and mortality.


7. A.I.Artificial Intelligence (2001)

A.I. Artificial Intelligence, also known as A.I., is a 2001 American science fiction film written, directed, and produced by Steven Spielberg, and based on Brian Aldiss’s short story Super-Toys Last All Summer Long. 

Set sometime in the future, A.I. tells the story of David, a childlike android uniquely programmed with the ability to love.

8. I, Robot (2004)

In 2035, humanoid robots serve humanity by obeying the Three Laws of Robotics. Del Spooner, a Chicago police detective, distrusts robots after a car crash ended in a robot saving him over a preteen girl based on a chance of survival.

Spooner’s body was cybernetically augmented after the incident by Dr. Alfred Lanning, co-founder of USR (US Robotics), and inventor of the Laws. 

9. Transformers (2007)

Transformers is a 2007 American science fiction action film based on the Transformers toy line.

The film, which combines computer animation with live-action, is directed by Michael Bay, with Steven Spielberg serving as executive producer.

It is the first installment of the live-action Transformers film series. It stars Shia LaBeouf as Sam Witwicky, a teenager who gets caught up in a war between the heroic Autobots and the villainous Deceptions, two factions of alien robots who can disguise themselves by transforming into everyday machinery, primarily vehicles.

10. Wall-E (2008)

The story follows a robot named WALL-E, who is designed to clean up an abandoned, waste-covered Earth far in the future.

He falls in love with another robot named EVE, who also has a programmed task, and follows her into outer space on an adventure that changes the destiny of both his kind and humanity.

Both robots exhibit an appearance of free will and emotions similar to humans, which develop further as the film progresses.

11. Big Hero 6 (2014)

Big Hero 6 is a 2014 American 3D computer-animated superhero action comedy film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures.

It is the 54th film in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series, and is inspired by the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name.

Directed by Don Hall and Chris Williams, the film tells the story of a young robotics prodigy named Hiro Hamada who forms a superhero team to combat a masked villain.

12. Chappie (2015)

Chappie (stylized as CHAPPiE) is an upcoming American science fiction film directed by Neill Blomkamp. The screenplay, written by Blomkamp and Terri Tatchell, is based on Blomkamp's 2004 short film Tetra Vaal. The film is set to be released on March 6, 2015.

Chappie, an experimental robot built and designed to learn and feel, must fight back against forces planning to take him down.
