Work starts on German House in Ho Chi Minh City

Construction commenced on the US$100 million German House in Ho Chi Minh City on October 24.

Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony, Hans-Dieter Stell, German Consul General to HCM City, hailed the facility as a “beacon” lightening the two countries’ strategic partnership.

It will contribute to fostering economic-trade, and cultural links between Germany and Vietnam and the whole ASEAN region, he said.

Appreciating the initiative to build the house, Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang, who is also President of the Vietnam-Germany Friendship Association, expressed his belief that once operational, it will become a symbol of German architecture in Vietnam.

It will be not only a destination of German businesses but also a venue for Vietnamese to study the culture and people of Germany, he noted.

The 25-storey building, which sits on 40,000 sq.m on Le Duan street in District 1, is scheduled to serve as the headquarter of the German Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City as well as a place for exhibitions, seminars and conferences to take place.
