The 23-year-old tax consultant Nguyen Ka Anh Duy from HCMC won the first prize, which was a week-long trip to Poland scheduled for September. Only learning about the contest in early June, Duy has contributed more than 840 pieces of writing about Poland on Wikipedia.

The works, which are mainly about the European country’s geography, history, architecture and culture, were highly praised by the jury and experts from the Vietnam Institute of Geography, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, and Vietnam-Poland Friendship Organization.

In addition to the trip to Poland, the Polish Embassy also awarded the second and third prizes to writers with outstanding entries.

The writing contest on Poland for Wikipedia and internet users, the first of its kind in Vietnam, was open to Vietnamese citizens over the age of 18, with an aim to encourage Vietnamese people to learn more about Poland.

The contestants were required to post stories about Poland of at least 1,000 words each on a certain website, particularly Wikipedia and Wordpress. Taking place from April 24 to July 12, the contest attracted more than 1,800 entries written in Vietnamese.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Polish Ambassador to Vietnam Wojciech Gerwel said he was delighted that the contest attracted huge response from Vietnamese Wikipedia and internet users.

The entries featured a wide range of topics, from the country’s geography to its attractions, beautiful landscapes, and peaceful villages, showing the love of Vietnamese people for Poland.
