Winners of Golden Kite Awards 2024 announced

VOV.VN - The movie Mai directed by comedian Tran Thanh scooped four of the top prizes at the Golden Kite Awards 2024 held on September 10 in Nha Trang City in the southcentral coastal province of Khanh Hoa by the Vietnam Cinema Association.

The film won the Golden Kite Awards for feature movie and “Best Art Designing" title, while Phuong Anh Dao was honoured with the title of “Best Actress”.

Furthermore, Tran Thanh and Binh Bong Bot were awarded with the “Best Screenplay” title.

"Mai" centres around the life of the eponymous female lead played by Phuong Anh Dao, a nearly 40-year-old masseuse who has a chance encounter with Duong (Thanh) and is subsequently pursued by him. However, she struggles to accept the feelings of a man seven years her junior due to her low self-esteem.

Tran Thanh paced the film slowly and moderated the intensity of the quarrels between his characters. Dao is given plenty of acting space, including moments where she grapples with single motherhood and feels helpless while soothing her crying child.

In the category of TV film, Gap Em Ngay Nang (Meet you on a sunny day) by Nguyen Duc Hieu surpassed a number of strong rivals to ultimately win the gold award.

The film tells a love story which originates from the service of "renting" a boyfriend or girlfriend to introduce to the family during the Lunar New Year. Two strangers from different backgrounds are the two main characters and they gradually come closer to each other as their affection grows.

Duy Hung and Thanh Huong won the “Best Actor” and “Best Actress” in the TV series “Gap Em Ngay Nang” and “Cuoc Doi Van Dep Sao” (Life is Beautiful), respectively.

The organisation board also presented Golden Kite awards to works in the categories of Documentary Film, Scientific Film, Short Film, and Best First Feature Film, including “Linh Anh” by Nguyen Quang Quyet, “Vi Sao Son Doong” by Nguyen Tai Van, “Dan Ca Go” by Nguyen Pham Thanh Dat, and Hai Muoi by Vu Thanh Minh, respectively.

“Best Supporting Actor” and “Best Supporting Actress” belonged to To Dung, Thanh Quy, Cong Duong, and Hong Van. “Best promising actor” title was given to Trung Kien and Anh Dao.

This year, The Golden Kite Awards 2024 attracted a total of 163 works, including 18 feature films, 18 TV series, 41 documentaries, 18 scientific films, 14 cartoons, 50 short films, along with four cinematographic research, theory, and criticism works.
