Weekly street art show debuts in downtown Ho Chi Minh City
A new program featuring street performances were opened on Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street in Ho Chi Minh City on May 13.
The Ho Chi Minh City Street Show was debuted at 7:00 pm, amazing local residents and tourists with a variety of gigs along the pedestrian street.
The program is set to take place from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm every Saturday and Sunday night on Nguyen Hue.
The show began with the sound of EDM (electronic dance music) that attracted nearby visitors to a total of six stages featuring different genres of street art.
The stages were not equipped with high-end loudspeakers or fancy decorations but rather embracing distinctive themes that accentuated the street-style nature of the show.

At one stage, the model of a yellow bus was erected to encourage people to use public transportation in Ho Chi Minh City, while another depicted a corner of Bui Vien Street in the city’s ‘backpacker area.’
In another section, a hiphop dance was performed against the melody of the violin and ‘trong com,’ a kind of traditional bongo-shaped Vietnamese drum, in front of the graffiti image of a Vietnamese woman.
One of the performances boasted circus acts that were highlighted by the combination of EDM and the sound of ‘dan bau,’ Vietnam’s traditional stringed instrument.
Among a large number of artists, Quoc Co and Quoc Nghiep, the Vietnamese circus brothers who had set a Guinness World Record, captured the attention of the audience with their breathtaking stunts.
Aside from the six stages, several backgrounds with a variety of themes were established for visitors to take photos with.
The entire show was livestreamed on Facebook for better crowd effects.
“It’s amazing!” Christine Joan, a U.S. tourist, shouted, adding it was her third time in Ho Chi Minh City but first time to witness such captivating performances.
The show was originally aimed at providing a playground and entertainment for local residents, Bui Ta Hoang Vu, director of the municipal Department of Tourism, said, adding that it could become a special feature of the city’s culture.
“Based on this regular activity, an annual international street art festival can also be organized in the metropolis,” Vu continued.
