Wax museum featuring artists to open in HCM City

Visitors to Ho Chi Minh City will have a chance to pose for photos at the Wax Museum of Vietnamese Artists, known informally as Madame Tussauds Vietnam, which is scheduled to open early next month.

The museum features more than 100 life-size wax models of artists working in theatre, movie and music.

Featured are models of artists in cai luong (reformed opera), a genre of southern traditional theatre, such as People’s Artist Dinh Bang Phi and People’s Artist Huynh Nga.

The museum includes a place to display photographs, pictures and documents about Vietnamese theatre.

“We have invested more than VND35 billion (US$1.5 million) to build the museum. More models will be added,” said Thai Ngoc Binh, a member of the Vietnamese Wax Model Company, and owner of the museum.

According to Binh, proceeds from ticket sales will be spent on helping poor artists in HCM City and southern provinces.

The museum is located on the 1st floor at Hoa Binh Theatre at 240 Ba Thang Hai Street in District 10.
