Vietnamese translator awarded “Friend of Chinese Literature” title
VOV.VN - Translator Nguyen Le Chi became the first Vietnamese recipient of the “Friend of Chinese Literature” title, awarded by Zhang Hongsan, president of the China Writers Association, in Nanjing of China, on July 21.
This accolade recognises literary translators from around the world for their work in translating Chinese literature. Chi received the award in recognition of her tireless dedication to literary translation over more than 25 years.
The recognition ceremony was part of the “7th International Sinologists Conference on Translating Chinese Literature” which is taking place in Nanjing from July 20 to 24.
The conference, held every two years since 2010, attracts a large number of renowned literary translators from around the world.
This year's event focused on the theme 'Translation for the Future' and involved the participation of 39 leading Chinese writers, as well as 39 literary translators from other countries, including Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Nepal, the Republic of Korea, Japan, Mexico, the UK, Turkey, Spain, the Netherlands, Poland, Italy, and Iran.
At the event, Chi expressed her gratitude to the Chinese authors for writing such wonderful stories, giving her the opportunity to share them with Vietnamese readers for over 25 years.
“I hope to continue discovering and translating meaningful works, serving as a literary bridge between China and Vietnam. I also dream of sharing Vietnamese literature with Chinese and international audiences,” she said.
In June 2025, Nguyen Le Chi was honoured by the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City with a Certificate of Merit, recognising her as one of 177 individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the city's literary and artistic development over the past 50 years since national reunification (1975–2025).
Vietnamese translators honoured for boosting cultural ties with Kazakhstan
