Vietnamese installation artist performs in RoK

Hanoi-based artist Nguyen Manh Hung will participate in the Asia Young 36 exhibit at the Jeonbuk Museum of Art in the Republic of Korea (RoK) on September 2.

Hung will display his installation work called Chien Luy (The Barricade), which sends messages about life and war.

“In my work, I used wood, paper, plastic and metal combined with canvas bags, sawdust and sand, all of which help viewers evoke wartime in Vietnam,” the 40-year-old artist said.

He will also use light effects to highlight his work at the exhibition.
Born in 1976, Hung is one of the country’s most popular contemporary artists.

He is known as the art director of Nha San Studio, a non-profit project to support young artists to develop their career.

His works were featured in the 7th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art at the Queensland Art Gallery in Australia last year.

He has organised solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad, including Sweden, Germany, France and the US.

Asia Young 36 is part of a five-day international exchange workshop organised by Jeonbuk Museum, which gives participants a chance to share their art with the world.

It will include 36 young artists from 14 Asian countries.
