Vietnamese films screened on Indian national TV

Vietnamese movies are being screened on India’s national TV channel Doordarshan, for the first time, from September 1-4.

They include “Em Be Ha Noi” (The Little Girl of Hanoi) directed by Hai Ninh, “Con Chim Vanh Khuyen” (Passerine Bird) by Nguyen Van Thong, “Bao Gio Cho Den Thang Muoi” (When Will October Come) by Dang Nhat Minh, and “Canh Dong Hoang” (The Wild Rice Field) by Hong Sen.

The event forms part of activities to mark the 71st anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day (September 2) and look towards the celebration of 45 years of Vietnam-India diplomatic ties (1972) and 10 years of strategic partnership (2007).

It is also significant as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Vietnam – the first in 15 years since the last was made by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2001.

India’s national TV Doordarshan will broadcast the message delivered by Vietnamese Ambassador to India Ton Sinh Thanh on the development of the two countries’ strategic partnership.

Nine Vietnamese films were screened in New Delhi during a Vietnamese Film Festival held in India in May.

The Vietnamese Embassy in India also got engaged in a number of activities such as an international book fair, a music festival, a photo exhibition and a cultural workshop to promote the image of Vietnamese land, people and culture in India.
