Vietnamese film screened at Tokyo Film Festival

Vietnamese film “Cha va con va…” (Big Father, Small Father and Other Stories) was screened at the Crosscut Asia programme under the 30th Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) taking place in Japan from October 25-November 3.

Directed by director Phan Dang Di, the film is set in Ho Chi Minh City in the early 1990s and revolves around young people during Vietnam’s transition to a market-oriented economy.

The film was screened on October 28 at the film festival.

Over 1,500 films from 88 countries and territories worldwide have been screened at the festival in different categories like Crosscut Asia, Japan Now and World Focus.

The TIFF, held the first time in 1985, is the only film festival in Japan recognised by the International Federation of Film Producers Association and has become one of the largest film festivals in Japan.

Renowned award “Tokyo Grand Prix” will be presented to the most excellent film. Meanwhile, the festival also includes other traditional awards like Best Director, Best Actress, Best Actor and Best Artistic Contribution.

The awards will be announced at the closing ceremony on November 5.
