Vietnamese expatriates in Cambodia join foreign friends to celebrate Tet
VOV.VN - The Embassy of Vietnam in Cambodia hosted a Tet gathering themed “Xuân Quê hương - Bính Ngọ 2026” (Homeland Spring-Lunar Year of the Horse 2026) held in Phnom Penh on February 8, creating a warm and festive atmosphere ahead of the Lunar New Year (Tet).
The event brought together overseas Vietnamese from 25 cities and provinces across Cambodia, along with senior Cambodian leaders, including Samdech Kittisangha Bundit Men Sam An, Vice President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), and Khuong Sreng, Governor of Phnom Penh. Numerous diplomats, officials, and international friends also attended the celebration.
In his remarks, Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu recalled the country's achievements in 2025. He underscored the significance of Party General Secretary To Lam’s state visit to Cambodia, one of his first overseas visits following the 14th National Party Congress, describing it as a historic milestone that opened a new and promising chapter in the two countries’ good neighbourliness and traditional friendship.
On behalf of the Cambodian side, Samdech Men Sam An, Chairwoman of the Cambodia–Vietnam Friendship Association, extended her New Year wishes to the peoples of both countries, expressing hopes for good health, renewed energy, and continued success.
During the event, Ambassador Vu presented 200 Tet gifts from Party General Secretary To Lam to disadvantaged Vietnamese-origin families living in Cambodia. Certificates of Merit were also awarded to outstanding collectives and individuals in recognition of their contributions to community affairs in 2025.
Participants enjoyed a variety of cultural activities, including artistic performances by staff of the Vietnamese Embassy, Vietnamese students in Cambodia, and an art troupe from Tay Ninh province. The programme also featured traditional calligraphy, allowing guests to receive calligraphic letters symbolising good luck and best wishes for the Lunar New Year.
