Vietnamese Culture Week opens in Cambodia

VOV.VN - Chaktomuk Theater in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh welcomed the start of Vietnamese Culture Week on August 10 with special performances put on by Vietnamese art troupes.

In his opening remarks at the event, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam Hoang Dao Cuong underscored the great significance of the cultural event in marking the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries, as well as Cambodia - Vietnam Friendship Year 2022.

Vietnam would like to introduce Cambodian people and international friends to its distinctive cultural identity through performances of folk songs, dances, folk music, and classical ballet, he said.

Furthermore, a photo exhibition showcasing Vietnamese culture and education and UNESCO-recognised heritage sites in Vietnam was also getting underway during the event

The Deputy Minister affirmed that the regular cultural programmes hosted by the two countries have played a key part in enhancing solidarity, friendship, and mutual understanding, while simultaneously contributing to the economic development of each country.

In response, Cambodian Minister of Culture and Arts Phoeurng Sackona pointed that the COVID-19 pandemic not only caused its adverse socio-economic impact, but also negatively affected cultural and tourism activities, causing them to be held in virtual forms.

He expressed his belief that the cultural event will provide an ideal venue for the two peoples to gather and strengthen mutual understanding, contributing to promoting people-to-people exchange and friendship between the two countries.

According to schedule, Vietnamese Culture Week in Cambodia will be taking place from August 9 to August 14 in the cities of Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.
