Vietnamese culture captivates audiences at Bulgaria’s Asian Festival

VOV.VN - Vietnam stood out as a cultural highlight at the recent Asian Festival held in Sofia, Bulgaria, captivating both local and international visitors with a dynamic presentation of its rich heritage, tourist attractions, traditional cuisine, and finely crafted handicrafts.

The event, held under the patronage of Bulgarian Vice President Iliyana Yotova and Sofia’s local council, brought together representatives from 11 Asian countries, namely Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, China, the Republic of Korea, India, Pakistan, Iran, the UAE, Palestine, and Mongolia.

In her opening remarks, Vice President Yotova underscored the importance of cultural exchanges in helping different countries and peoples to live together in peace.

She noted that the festival’s theme, “Unity in Diversity,” carries a timely and meaningful message of friendship and harmony in today’s increasingly unsettled world.

Meanwhile, Sofia Deputy Mayor Ivan Vasilev also highlighted the city's rich, millennia-old traditions, reaffirming the municipality’s dedication to celebrating diversity. He praised the festival for creating connections among people through shared experiences in art, music, and food.

The Vietnamese booth drew significant attention, easily recognizable with the vibrant red of the national flag and adorned with iconic cultural symbols such as conical hats, pith helmets, bamboo musical instruments, and displays of traditional dishes and handicrafts.

In particular, the Vietnamese Embassy in collaboration with the Vietnamese community and Bulgarian friends staged seven special cultural performances, receiving enthusiastic cheers and responses from the audience.

In addition to performances, the Vietnamese Embassy hosted a variety of interactive experiences, including traditional bamboo dances, a painting workshop on rattan and bamboo, and a fun quiz about Vietnam with prizes.

The opening ceremony was wrapped up with a symbolic dove release performed by Vice President Yotova, the Deputy Minister of Tourism of Bulgaria, the Deputy Mayor of Sofia, and representatives from all 11 participating Asian countries, sending a united message of peace and solidarity.
