Vietnamese archaeological artefacts displayed in Germany

An ongoing exhibition entitled “Treasures of Vietnam Archaeology” at the State Museum of Archaeology in Germany’s Sachsen state has been attracting a large number of visitors.

The exhibition, which runs through August 20, is one of events sponsored by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, to celebrate the 5th founding anniversary of the Vietnam-Germany strategic partnership.

As many as 400 historical artefacts classified into three categories: Prehistory, My Son Sanctuary (a temple complex in central Vietnam) and Thang Long Imperial Citadel in Hanoi are being displayed at the exhibition.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, director of the municipal museum Sabine Wolfram said the exhibition was a great opportunity for Germans and overseas Vietnamese in Germany to gain an insight into Vietnam’s tradition and history.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany Doan Xuan Hung introduced customs and history of Vietnam to visitors, while affirming the traditional relationship and friendship between Vietnam and Germany.

Before being showcased in Chemnitz, these artefacts were displayed at the LWL Museum of Archaeology in Herne city from October 7, 2016 to February 26, 2017, drawing more than 50,000 visitors.

After Chemnitz, they will be exhibited in Baden-Wurttemberg state from September 16, 2017 to January 7, 2018.
