Vietnam Women’s Museum: A Traveler’s Choice 2014 Winner

(VOV) - TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel site, has named the Vietnam Women’s Museum in Hanoi the winner of its Traveler’s Choice award, citing it as one of the highlights for any visit to the Southeast Asian country.

With its modern design and eye-catching displays focused on the contribution of women to the country’s history, the museum highlights their role in Vietnam’s many military conflicts as well as in commerce, the TripAdvisor website states. 

It also includes features on female street vendors and the role of women role in the family, providing an honest and insightful glimpse into the everyday life of Vietnamese women.   

The museum located on Ly Thuong Kiet Street attracts on average 400-500 tourists per day, sometimes even up to nearly 1,000. All visitors say they are highly impressed by a statue of a Vietnamese Mother at the entrance.

Spanning an area of nearly 2,000 square metres, the museum features more than 25,000 documents which reflect the contribution of Vietnamese women to historical and contemporary developments.

Celine, an American visitor said she was very impressed by the traditional customs and culture, especially costumes. She said she admires Vietnamese women who are very intelligent, brave and diligent.

Deputy Director of the museum, Nguyen Hai Van said the museum not only showcases paintings and objects on women in the past and at present, it also conducts cultural and educational exchange programmes to attract more visitors.

In the time  ahead, it plans to welcome more delegations from at home and abroad and display more  invaluable objects on Vietnamese women.
