Vietnam win second Asian Beach Games gold

The duo of Le Thi Thu Mai and Thach Tuan Thanh won the second gold medal for Vietnam at the Asian Beach Games in Phuket, Thailand on November 16.

They topped the mixed doubles event, beating Thai rivals 13-6 in the final during the third day of competition.

The first gold medal came from Van Ngoc Tu, who won in the women's 52kg category of kurash, a martial art from Uzbekistan, on Saturday.

Tu gave Siramol Deepudsa of the hosts a methodical beating to win, 1-0, in the first round before beating Chen Chin Ying of Chinese Taipei, 1-0, in the finals.

Last June, Tu, a renowned judo queen in Vietnam, triumphed in the same event at the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in South Korea.

Earlier last Saturday, Nguyen Thi Xuan won the bronze medal in the women's 50kg category of freestyle beach wrestling.

With two gold, two silver and nine bronze medals, Vietnam are at eighth place in the medal tally. Thailand, Mongolia and United Arab Emirates are the three top delegations.
