Vietnam to participate in Venice Art Biennale with its own pavilion
VOV.VN - Vietnam will join other six countries to take part in the 61st Venice Art Biennale for the first time with its own pavilion which is set to run from May 9 to November 22.
The Vietnamese pavilion will feature an exhibition titled “Art in the Global Flow” and it will be located in Ca' Giustinian Faccanon palace at Calle delle Acque, number 5016, in the San Marco district.
The display, to be curated by Do Tuong Linh, will feature works by Nguyen Thanh Chuong, Doan Thi Thu Huong, Bui Huu Hung, Le Hoang Nguyen, among others.
The pavilion will showcase contemporary artistic perspectives within the context of globalisation, where cultures are constantly interacting and evolving. This event is seen as a significant step in bringing Vietnamese fine art closer to the international art scene.
Previously, several Vietnamese artists had made their mark in Venice. In 2023, Le Huu Hieu became the first Vietnamese artist to participate in the 60th edition at the invitation of the Venice Art Biennale. He was born in 1982 in Ha Tinh province and currently lives and works in Hanoi.
In 2021, Hieu's solo exhibition "Soul Energy" was held at Arsenale Nord in Venice, occupying nearly 1,000 m², under the curation of Dr. Chiara Canali. The event drew the attention from the media and international curators, and was the first solo exhibition by an Asian artist at this venue.
Vietnam's participation in the Venice Art Biennale 2026 is considered a significant milestone for the country's fine arts. It not only opens up opportunities for dialogue with the global art community, but also demonstrates the increasingly deep integration of Vietnamese art on the international cultural map.
The Biennale, held every two years since 1895, is often referred to as the Olympics of fine arts due to its scale and influence on international art.
Each Biennale brings together hundreds of artists, curators, and art organisations from many countries. The art projects present reflect prominent trends and issues in contemporary art globally. In 2026, the organisers announced that 99 countries and territories have been invited to participate in the event.
