Vietnam Puppetry Festival gets underway in HCM City

The three-day festival drew six theatres nationwide, including the Vietnam National Puppetry Theatre, the Phuong Nam Theatre, the Hai Phong Puppet Theatre, the Dong Nai Contemporary Art Theatre, the Canh Dieu Theatre and the Soul Music & Performing Arts Academy.

A wide range of puppetry forms will be presented during three nights of the festival on Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street. Meanwhile, a parade of puppetry and circus characters and the presentation of children’s drums and music performances will be highlights of the event.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Vuong Duy Bien said Vietnamese puppetry has both traditional and integration features. The successful organization of the festival will lay a foundation for the coming events.

He hoped that the Festival will be held annually, helping to enrich cultural and recreational activities on Nguyen Hue Pedestrian street.
