Vietnam project instils love for traditional culture in Gen Z

VOV.VN - A press conference was held on January 22 in Hanoi to unveil a project that highlights Gen Z’s efforts in preserving and promoting Vietnamese cultural values through a journey to explore craft villages, cuisine, and national heritages.

With hundreds of videos produced over the past five years, the project named "Nét Việt Nam" serves as a ‘living museum’, which authentically captures traditional crafts, folk art, and culinary excellence in Vietnam. This initiative not only helps preserve heritage but also promotes sustainable socioeconomic development in rural areas.

Pham Thi Hanh Chi, the founder and producer of the project, shared that her love for Vietnamese culture stems from family traditions and the customs of her hometown. Witnessing the diminishing of traditional values in the face of global cultural influences, Chi and her team wanted to use this platform to safeguard and celebrate these precious cultural legacies through hands-on experiences.

The project not only preserves traditional beauty but also provides opportunities for young people to understand, appreciate, and innovate in ways that connect culture to modern life, said Chi.

The project consists of three main series, with the first exploring traditional villages at risk of disappearing and linking the culture of these crafts to the younger generation. The second discovers the culinary history of Vietnam across different regions and tells cultural stories behind each dish. The third offers a modern perspective on traditional folk arts such as chèo (traditional opera), Tuồng (classical drama), folk dances, and traditional music.

A highlight of the project is the collaboration with TikToker Quynh Giao, alias Giao Cun, who will help spread the cultural message to hundreds of thousands of followers on TikTok. She was also nominated for the TikTok Awards 2024 in the Education Creator of the Year category, showcasing the significant influence of Gen Z in merging traditional culture with contemporary life.

Beyond simply spreading cultural values, the project is to promote awareness of heritage preservation, support local economic development, and protect environmental landscapes. It strongly affirms younger generation’s commitment to inheriting, preserving, and enhancing the country’s invaluable cultural heritage.
