“Vietnam now” exhibition in Hong Kong

•  Japan helps restore Vietnamese silk paintings

On display will be oil paintings, silk paintings, bronze sculptures, 3D photography, contemporary calligraphy and performance.

“Vietnam now” portrays a country on the move, in great transition, paying homage to the past, living in the present and looking into the future.

How to modernize without losing one’s tradition and culture-a challenge for Vietnamese of all ages and from all walks of life is clearly demonstrated in the works.

"Hope" of Ha Tri Hieu

Ha Tri Hieu’s oil paintings feature a culture emerging with hopes and dreams of the future while Nguyen Thi Chau Giang’s silk paintings explore the issues facing the women of Vietnam today on the path to becoming modern.

Nguyen Thi Chinh Le’s bronze sculptures depict daily life and tribulations of being alive in today’s complicated world.

"Feeling" of Nguyen Thi Chinh Le

Nguyen The Son will present his innovative 3D works about the impact of rapid development on the material and spiritual lives of the Vietnamese.

Le Quoc Viet and Nguyen Quang Thang will exhibit their works of contemporary calligraphy.

"This is what I heard" of Le Quoc Viet

The exhibition will be accompanied by a documentary film by Art Vietnam Gallery in association with documentary filmmaker Bill Perna of Perna Content, which portrays how artists live, how they work, and how they address issues.

A similar exhibition called “The Changing Face of Hanoi” was held in Hong Kong in May 1997 to introduce five of the country’s leading artists at the time.
