Vietnam joins Singapore int’l book conference

(VOV) - Three Vietnamese representatives were among the more than 200 international delegates participating in the second International Summit of the Book in Singapore on August 16.

The summit, initiated by the US Library of Congress, celebrates the enduring influence of the culture of the book and reiterates the importance of libraries and books to preserving national cultural identities and human civilisation.

The Library of Congress intends for the Summit to travel to a different cultural capital every year, somewhat in the manner of the Olympics.

Hosted by the National Library Board Singapore (NLB), this year’s summit—themed “A Book By Any Other Name”—discussed the future of the book.

Renowned library leaders, eminent authors, thought leaders, and international publishers of both old and new media discussed the digital publishing revolution, its impact on literacy and reading culture, and its implications for cultural and historical transmission.

Delegates took the opportunity to explore these issues from an Asian perspective.
The third summit will be held next year in France.
