The Vietnamese Embassy has joined representative agencies from 15 other countries to showcase traditional culture at the 2015 Francophonie Week in Pakistan’s capital city, Islamabad.
The participating countries, all members of the International Organisation of La Francophonie, include Austria, Belgium, France, Egypt, Morocco, Lebanon, and Canada.
Among items the Vietnamese embassy brought to the event are delicate handicrafts and paintings, including a map of Vietnam made of rice grains, replicas of an ancient bronze drum and a “xich lo” (cyclo), and some typical examples of Vietnamese cuisine.
Meanwhile, a documentary will be screened exploring lives in the country’s traditional craft villages.
Through activities held over the course of the festival, which opened on March 16 and will run until March 21, the embassy hopes to promote the Vietnamese identity and highlight the country’s achievements in national development over the past few decades.
The event is being held at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts.
