Vietnam athletes go for gold at the SEA Games
(VOV) - Vietnam will send 650 athletes to Southeast Asia’s largest sporting event SEA Games to be held in Myanmar from December 1-22, 2013.
Under a plan recently approved by the General Department of Sports and Physical Training, the athletes will compete in 30 of a total 33 sports at the games.
Their main aim is to achieve a minimum of 70 gold medals and reach the top three in the regional rankings.
This is no easy task for Vietnam as many competitions of its strong sports such as swimming, shooting, Pencak Silat, weightlifting and cycling, have been reduced.
In preparation for the event, the General Department of Sports and Physical Training has called in 1407 athletes and 215 coaches for training at Hanoi’s National Sports Training Centre and the Bac Ninh Sports University.
At the 26th SEA Games held in Indonesia, Vietnam with 593 athletes taking part was placed third after clinching 96 gold, 92 silver and 100 bronze medals.
