Venezuelan handicrafts to be displayed in Hanoi

An exhibition of Venezuelan handicrafts in Hanoi from July 8 – 14 will give Vietnamese people an insight about the mixed culture of the Latin American country, said Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on July 4.

The event at the Vietnam Exhibition Centre for Culture and Arts will feature some 100 items such as bags, hats, vases, cradles, and jewellery which are made of various materials, from stone, wood and bark to crocodile bones.

Representatives from the ministry said before the landing of European explorers in America in the 15th century, Venezuelan natives used to make utensils in their own unique way.

After that, local life was influenced by African and European cultures, and locals started creating things that embody multi-style features.

Apart from the exhibition, a workshop looking into the making of handicrafts of the Warao people – a native group in Venezuelawill be organised on July 11. 

The activities are part of the Venezuelan Culture Week in Vietnam celebrating the 25th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic relations.
