US artists to hold painting exhibition in Da Nang
VOV.VN - A painting exhibition highlighting the lingering effects of Agent Orange on people by famous painter David Thomas of the United States and the Boston Printmakers is scheduled to take place from April 17 to 21 at the Da Nang Fine Arts Museum.
About 40 US artists will participate in the exhibition which has been designed in two spaces.
The first space, themed “Finding Parkinsons” will display artworks by painter David Thomas who was born in Portland, Maine, in 1946.
He joined the US Army in 1968 and was subsequently sent to Vietnam to serve as a combat engineer/artist for one year from April 11, 1969, to April 10, 1970. After leaving the US Army, Thomas then joined the Vietnam Veterans Against the War to protest US involvement in Vietnam, with many of his artworks focusing on the anti-war movement.
In 2000, he was awarded the “Vietnam Art Medal” by the Vietnamese Government in recognition of his contributions to the arts.
The second space will bring together artworks of 37 members of the Boston Printmakers.
Originally founded in 1947, the mission of the Boston Printmakers is to promote public knowledge of printmaking, encourage and support artists working in printmaking, as well as promoting both excellence and innovation in the field of printmaking.
Their artworks themed “Peace, Love, and Understanding” will be donated to the Da Nang Fine Arts Museum after the exhibition, aiming to show gratitude for the museum's hospitality to international artists.
