Turkish films come to Hanoi

A movie series of Turkish-German director Fatih Akin will be screened at Goethe Institute from March 11 to March 26 in Hanoi and HCM City.

Akin’s movies, which mainly focus on latest topics such as immigration, characteristics, culture and nations, revolve around plentiful genres including the musical portrait of a lively urban tale of two continents in cultural diversity, comedy and historical drama.

Schedule for the screening of his movies are as follows: Solino (2002) on March 11, Doner Gang on March 12, Soul Kitchen (2009) on March 18, and Crossing the Bridge: The Soul of Istanbul (2005) on March 19, in addition to The Edge of Heaven (2007) on March 25, and The Cut (2014) on March 26.
Fatih Akin is a director, screen-writer, actor and movie producer who was born in 1973 in Hamburg, West Germany to parents of Turkish ethnicity. His movies always raise questions about his characteristics, culture and the origin of his Turkey ascendant.

Akin rose to prominence in his country with the movie Head-On, which won the Golden Bear Award at 2004 Berlin Film Festival.

His other movies, The Edge of Heaven, has won best screenplay award at 60th Cannes Film Festival. Akin also won many other movie awards at German and European film festivals.
