Trans-national car rally marks India-ASEAN dialogue

Vietnam will be among stopovers of the trans-national car rally, which kicked off in Yogyakarta city on Indonesia’s Java island on November 26 to mark two decades of the India-ASEAN Dialogue Partnership.

The 8,000-kilometer-long, 22-day journey will pass through other ASEAN countries, including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar, and end in New Delhi on December 20.

In his congratulation message, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh affirmed that the rally will help promote mutual understanding between the ASEAN and Indian people as well as consolidate connectivity between the bloc and India.

Speaking at the ceremony, Indian Ambassador to Indonesia Gurjit Singh stressed that the rally demonstrates India’s close links with ASEAN countries.

It will create public awareness, promote connectivity, and enhance trade, investment, tourism and people-to-people links between ASEAN and India, he said.

The rally is jointly held by the Governments of India and ASEAN countries and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
