Traditional mid-autumn festival to be enacted in Hanoi’s Old Quarter

VOV.VN - A wide range of activities, including exhibitions, decorations, and folk games, will be held this September in the Old Quarter of Hanoi to mark the 2024 mid-autumn festival.

An opening ceremony of the festival will be organised on September 6 evening at Phung Hung mural street, which is one of the most interesting tourist attractions in Hanoi.

Visitors can contemplate a range of beautiful street murals showcasing the long-standing culture of the capital whilst enjoying the mid-autumn festive atmosphere between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Mondays to Thursdays, as well as from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends.

Furthermore, the Hanoi Old Quarter Cultural Exchange Centre at 50 Dao Duy Tu street in Hoan Kiem district will host an exhibition on the ancient mid-autumn festival.

Also, the centre will give both locals and tourists the chance to experience making star-shaped lanterns and traditional cakes under the guidance of artisans from craft villages in Hanoi and neighbouring areas from September 9 to 15.

In particular, mid-autumn festival celebrations of Hanoi families from the old times will be recreated at the Heritage House at 87 Ma May street in Hoan Kiem district from September 6 to 9.

At the Center for Culture and Art No.22 Hang Buom street, a moon-themed fine arts exhibition by painter Le Thiet Cuong and a puppet show is scheduled to take place on September 15.

Visitors will have the opportunity to play many folk games such as mandarin square capturing (Ô ăn quan), tug of war (Kéo co), and bamboo dancing (nhảy sạp) along Phung Hung mural street.

The activities are expected to provide meaningful experiences for visitors, local people, and especially children during the mid-autumn festival.
